Volunteer Spotlight: Donovan Cordova

Donovan CordovaCottonwood Institute recently had the opportunity to reconnect with rock star volunteer, Donovan Cordova, to find out what he has been up to:

Tell us about yourself, where you are from, and what you are up to these days: I am from Pueblo, Colorado and a huge fanatic of volunteering in the community for over a decade. Last December, I recently graduated from University of Colorado Denver with a degree in nonprofit management and I am currently the Program Manager at The ZONE Business Center at NEWSED Community Development.

Why are you passionate about Cottonwood Institute? It is great to see an organization take students with little experience in the mountains on life-changing trips. Without Cottonwood Institute, many of these students would never get a chance to camp, hike, or enjoy the majestic nature in their own backyard.

How long have you been volunteer with Cottonwood Institute? I have been volunteering for Cottonwood Institute for just under 2 years and love it! I have volunteered at the Base Camp Bash twice, The Throwdown charity corn hole tournament, the Urban Farm Volunteer Project, and the Beer Release Party.

Donovan CordovaWhat has been your favorite volunteer project or event so far? All the events have been great and it’s wonderful to see people excited in supporting Cottonwood.

Why should others get involved with Cottonwood Institute? With so many options to help, why not get involved with Cottonwood Institute! By helping even a small amount, the momentum gathered  as a whole is quite significant to the community. A simple email to a friend or family member asking for support can open new doors and opportunities.

Anything else you want to share? I have worked part time at Whole Foods Market for about 10 years as I love health and nutrition but also because it’s hard to give up the discount I use when shopping.

GET INVOLVED. VOLUNTEER TODAY:

If you are interested in volunteering, check out our current volunteer opportunities, or contact our Program Coordinator, Taryn Longberry via Email and she will help connect you with the right volunteer project.
