Career Bloom Event Helped Young People Explore Career Opportunities

Written by Erin Angel, CI Senior Instructor, Changemakers & Alumni Coordinator. Our 2026 Partners In the Outdoors Career Day, called Career Bloom, lived up to its name, bringing opportunity, and community to help young people explore their futures. Planned in partnership with Environmental Learning for Kids, Cottonwood Institute, and a dedicated student steering committee, this inspiring event served about 45 students from Denver, Aurora, and Lafayette, who got a leg up on their summer job search to shape their own career journeys.

A white board displays flyers showing opportunities such as jobs and scholarships at the Career Bloom Career Day event. It was a day full of hands-on learning and meaningful connections. Students participated in interactive sessions on finding a career that fits their passions, building strong resumes, discovering where to find job opportunities, and communicating professionally through email, text, and over the phone. These practical skills gave students tools they can use right now and confidence to prepare for what comes next.

The event’s impact was amplified by the time, generosity, and wisdom of community partners, including Bluff Lake Nature Center, Camping to Connect, Colorado Agrovoltaics Learning Center, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Colorado State Forest Service, Colorado Young Leaders, CU Science Discovery, Teens, Inc., ETS AI Consulting, Jefferson County Open Space, Bluff Lake Nature Center, American Conservation Experiences, Lincoln Hills Cares, Montbello Organizing Committee, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Wild Bear Nature Center. These presenters shared not only critical information, but encouragement to help students imagine themselves in meaningful careers.

“My heart was full on Saturday. Great to see the collaboration and all of the partners at the event. There were tears in my eyes! Thanks again for your support for our youth and community.”

-Loretta P., Environmental Learning For Kids

Career Bloom showed what’s possible when organizations, mentors, and youth come together. With guidance, hands-on learning, and a strong support network, these students are already taking the first steps toward bright and purposeful futures.

Finally, we wanted to give a big shout-out to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Partners in the Outdoors Program for helping to fund this exciting collaboration.
