Written by Field Instructor Hailey Schmidt with help from the New Vista students. The New Vista High School CAP class had a great day at Ollin Farms. They helped plant some succulents and morning glories as well as spread mycelium and mulch. They played a number of games and students enjoyed exploring near the creek. The day was very fun and goofy as demonstrated by the Mad Lib below that the students made:
Today our class went on a field trip to a crusty farm called Seed Bees. When we arrived, the first thing we noticed was the smell of a pizza tower and the sound “arf ” coming from the barn.
First, we helped with farm chores like joshing and pogo-ing. My favorite chore was vacuuming because it made me feel baffled.
Next, we met some farm animals! I got to see a slippery pangolin named Guy. It was vibrant and kept trying to somersault. My friend laughed so hard they almost snapped!
After that, we played games like hopscotch and Mariokart. I was really good at driving, but not so great at mountaineering.
At lunchtime, I ate a unicorn and drank slime. It tasted floofy especially after all that hard work!
In the afternoon, we did nature connection activities like biking and burping. I discovered a sparkly wool that looked like a kilt farm.
Before we left, I felt depression because my favorite part of the trip, absolute sheep, was over. I will never forget the amiable day we had at the farm!
A big thanks to the funders and supporters that make the CAP class possible, including: Enterprise Holdings Foundation, Great Outdoors Colorado, Patagonia, PeyBack Foundation, Strear Family Foundation, Thorne Nature Experience, Tony Grampsas Youth Services Program and the Xcel Energy Foundation.
