About CAP Class
Community Adventure Program (CAP) Class is our flagship program, an award-winning elective course that inspires students to become environmental changemakers. CAP is offered at no cost during the school day, ensuring access for students historically excluded from outdoor and environmental programs. Through a mix of hands-on classroom learning, field days, and overnight camping trips, students explore real-world environmental challenges and discover inspiring, community-based solutions.
What sets CAP apart is the student-led Action Project—a hands-on initiative where students identify an environmental issue they care about and work together to lead meaningful, local impact. Read more about our projects leading wildfire mitigation efforts, pollinator habitat restoration, organic gardening, and promoting sustainable transportation.
“My Cottonwood Institute program has helped me grow as a person. I’ve met so many people who’ve made lasting impacts on me, and learned so many skills for working with other people and being outside.” – CAP Student
More than an outdoor education class, CAP fosters leadership, connection, and a sense of agency, equipping students with the skills, confidence, and experience to create change in their communities.
