The Centaurus High School CAP class partnered with Lucky to Ride for our September Field Day. Feeling actually lucky to ride, 13 intrepid humans hailing from seven different countries came together for a joyful day of mountain biking and building community. We’ll leave it to the students to give you the details of the day:
“For our trip we went biking on the Coal Creek Bike Path in Lafayette. We followed the instructor from Lucky to Ride (the fabulous Trung Nguyen). I learned how helpful it is to switch gears when you are biking, as even with my years of biking experience I was never taught about before. We went around the stream and up a big hill, then went to a cute little park where my classmates and I ate and talked. We had burritos, and they were really tasty.”
“From there we continued further along the river until we reached a highway where if we continued we could have made it to Boulder or Denver. We turned back from there and when we got to a good place, we took out a bunch of water filters and drank some of the water from the river.”
“When we finally got back, we played a game of Camouflage. Camouflage is a really fun game where you have to hide and then sneak up on the person in the middle. I won the first round by tagging Ms. Angel. This was a really fun experience for me even though I bike every day. This is a trip that I would love to do again if I got the chance.”
“Although the climbs were very tiring, everything was fun because we were laughing!”
“What really surprised me was that I was able to communicate with the others in my group who didn’t speak English. I thought it would be super difficult but it actually wasn’t that hard which was nice.”
The previous was a compilation of the reflections from five of the students, translated when necessary. 100% of the students agreed that we had a great trip and we all want to go biking again soon! Thanks to Lucky to Ride we all learned a lot and had great bikes to ride- only one of the students has a bike of their own!

Sintiéndose realmente afortunados de montar en bicicleta, 13 intrépidos seres humanos de siete países diferentes se reunieron para pasar un alegre día de ciclismo de montaña y construcción de comunidad. Dejaremos que sean los estudiantes quienes te cuenten los detalles del día:
“Cuando salimos de viaje fuimos a montar en bicicleta por Coal Creek Bike Path in Lafayette. Seguimos al profesor de Lucky to Ride (el fabuloso Trung Nguyen). Aprendí lo útil que es cambiar de marcha cuando estás montando en bici, nunca me lo habían enseñado incluso con mis años de experiencia en este deporte. Rodeamos el arroyo y subimos una gran colina. Luego fuimos a un parque pequeño y bonito donde mis compañeros y yo comimos y hablamos. Comimos burritos, que estaban muy ricos.”
“Desde allí continuamos por el río hasta llegar a una carretera en la que si hubiéramos seguido podríamos haber llegado a Boulder o Denver. Desde allí dimos la vuelta y cuando llegamos a un buen lugar, sacamos un montón de filtros de agua y bebimos un poco del agua del río.”
“Cuando finalmente volvimos, jugamos un juego de Camuflaje. Camuflaje es un juego muy divertido en el que tienes que esconderte y luego acercarte sigilosamente a la persona que está en medio. Gané la primera ronda marcando a la Sra. Ángel. Fue una experiencia muy divertida para mí, aunque monto en bici todos los días. Es un viaje que me encantaría volver a hacer si tuviera la oportunidad.”
“Aunque me cansé mucho con las subidas, fue divertido porque nos reíamos.”
“Lo que realmente me sorprendió fue que pude comunicarme con los demás de mi grupo que no hablaban inglés. Pensé que sería súper difícil pero en realidad no lo fue tanto, lo cual fue agradable.”
Lo anterior fue una recopilación de las reflexiones de cinco de los estudiantes, traducidas cuando fue necesario. ¡El 100% de los estudiantes coincidieron en que tuvimos un gran viaje y todos queremos volver a montar en bicicleta pronto! Gracias a Lucky to Ride todos aprendimos mucho y tuvimos unas bicicletas estupendas para montar – ¡sólo uno de los estudiantes tiene una bicicleta propia!
