Water pollution is on the minds of the Centaurus High School CAP students. As part of their Action Project, our CAP class has studied the causes and effects of water pollution in our area. They are particularly interested in how the Marshall Fire is affecting the water quality in Coal Creek, their local waterway. So we decided to go out in the field and test water quality above and below the burn site ourselves.
We had an amazing day! Not only is the process of water testing and identifying and counting Benthic Macroinvertebrates super engaging in and of itself, but the knowledge that several entities, including the two city governments and the University of Colorado, are eager for their data and will be using it, is really gratifying.
We are still in the process of analyzing the data, but stay tuned for our big data reveal at the City of Lafayette Earth Day Festival on April 30th.
La contaminación del agua está en la mente de los alumnos CAP de Centaurus High School. Como parte de su Proyecto de Acción, nuestra clase CAP ha estudiado las causas y los efectos de la contaminación del agua en nuestra zona. Están especialmente interesados en cómo el incendio de Marshall está afectando a la calidad del agua de Coal Creek, su vía fluvial local.
