Avalanche Science
The Cottonwood Institute is excited to offer a one-day Avalanche Science course for schools and community organizations. Get out of the classroom and apply textbook math and science concepts through the lens of avalanche science.
During this course we will snow shoe to a base camp location, learn how to analyze avalanche terrain, dig snow pits to analyze the snow pack, practice 3 snow pack tests, practice using avalanche beacons, and complete an mock avalanche rescue scenario. This day will be action packed, so dress in your warmest outdoor gear and get ready to learn about the world of avalanches!
After completing this course, you will practice avalanche skills, including:
- Avalanche terrain analysis
- Snow pit analysis
- Snow pack tests
- Avalanche beacon use
- Avalanche rescue scenarios
