Please take a moment to fill out the CAP Pre-Test Survey. This survey will be used to assess your outdoor skills, your thoughts about the community, leadership, trust, etc. before taking the class. Your student ID # is required and will be used to compare pre and post-test results. Your name will remain anonymous, but the results will be shared with students, parents, administrators, and potential grant funding organizations. It should only take a few minutes, so please read each question carefully and answer the questions honestly. This is just a survey and not a test, so there are no right or wrong answers, just your opinions.

Greetings and welcome to the CAP Blog. This Blog (a.k.a. Weblog) is essentially an interactive website designed for you to actively participate in this class. Below, you will see a comments feature. This will allow you to post words of wisdom and encouragement to your classmates who make contributions to the Blog.
We will use this website to post Class Handouts, the Outdoor Clinic Calendar, Program News, class Quotables, Student Entries, and our detailed Trip Logs known as TLOGS. Each week, I will summarize the week’s events with an article called the CAP Week in Review for you to consult before writing your weekly Journal.
Please encourage your friends and family to visit the Blog weekly and give their feedback. Feel free to click the navigation links on the right and familiarize yourself with the Blog. I am looking forward to an extraordinary course this quarter!

Another great week of CAP has passed, and it is time to review all the incredible information that we have learned. Tuesday we worked some more on the community action project, and everyone was assigned something to research. This took up most of the class so got down to the real learning on Wednesday. As usual it was a jam-packed day. We started off with getting in to cook groups for the coming trip and going over the new and improved gear list. Next, we had a presentation by Jessie about different kinds of snow shelters. It made a lot of sense that the igloo came from the Inuit Eskimos. I saw “Touching the Void”. The movie was about two climbers, Simon and Joe, who decide to climb the west face of Siula Grande, a mountain in Peru. The west face had never been successfully climbed, and never was again. It appeared to me that they came into it without a lot of information, near the beginning, one of the guys said something along the lines of, “These mountains are really big!” They reached the summit without mishap, but the decent proved disastrous. Joe fell and broke his leg. Simon had to lower him down, 300 feet at a time. Unfortunately, he lowered him into a crevasse. They couldn
